Introduction: “I Dreamed A Dream” But I Can’t Remember What It Was…

February 13, 2019 5:18 pm Yellow there! “ I dreamed a dream” but I can’t remember what it was. I am diving into the most complex system we know, our brain, to look into how we are able to remember our dreams. I invite you and the unique complexity that is your brain to join me as I work to discover the neural correlations of dream recall. My project is going to use Artificial Intelligence algorithms to predict dream recall. I am going to be looking at the world inside our brains when we recall a dream through the lens of machine learning. Dreaming is a conscious experience and part of this experience is based on being able to remember a dream upon wakefulness. I am interested in discovering the objective reasoning behind how and why some individuals are able to recall a dream while others are not. Do you remember your dreams? If so, how often? Why are we sometimes able to remember our dream but other times not? What is happening in the brain when we recall? While each and every b...

Internship: “This Is What Dreams Are Made Of”

February 16, 2019 9:35 am Welcome back to this dreamland! I woke up at 3:30 am to go to Intel on Monday and in the time it took to walk from the bus stop to the building my whole body was numb from the cold but “hey now, [I guess] this is what dreams are made of!” It was exciting and nerve-wracking starting at Intel because it was a dive into the real world of working and engineering. While I have mentor support, I was left to truly be independent while working on this project. It reminded me when a teacher of mine once said, “Science is mostly taking a problem and not knowing where the heck to start in solving it.” The hardest thing for me, in the beginning, was realizing that I would have to change my approach when asking for help. I was unsure about the beginning of how to start my project because while I understand the concept conceptually, I have not had much experience with putting it into practice. When in school, it is easier because the teachers are always there to answe...

Helping Hands: “You Make My Dreams Come True”

February 26, 2019 10:16 am They say it takes a village to raise a child and what I am discovering is that it takes two villages, the country next door, and an extra alpaca to make a dream come true! This week was filled with lightheartedness and human kindness which together took away the overwhelming feelings of last week. The support and kindness from the people I met only reaffirm how blessed I am in this whole process which I am grateful for because it helps me to stay afloat when things get extra challenging. My advisor, Claire, has been giving me an amplitude amount of opportunities to network around Intel. Each time I meet someone new I am always ready to play my game of twenty (plus) questions to learn as much as I can. I really connected with one guy I met, Aniekeme, because of the energy and humor he brings into the office. I learned that he has a passion for programming but currently works more with clients. Now there is a stigma around people who work desk jobs of the...

Ladies And Gentleman: “Life Is But A Dream”

February 27, 2019 8:56 am One morning my advisor mentioned that she would be a little late coming into the office but that I could start working in the lobby. While I waited in the lobby, I started seeing all these men and women dressed up really professionally crowd in. There was not a single wrinkle in their clothes and I overheard that some of them came from out of state. I could tell they were there for a meeting or conference of some sort. All I saw were straight backs, polite smiles, and head nods. When I was observing their conversations I noted that everything seems better with a slight laugh. I am very excited especially when I see the women be so confident and sure in themselves, women power for the win. It is so thrilling to me because in this situation all the qualities I aspire to grow and have (such as strength, confidence, and leadership) are what is essential to make you thrive and succeed. I loved the atmosphere that was in the room. The small talk, the anticipat...
